Top Mistakes In Positioning Your Site In Search Engine

If you own a home based internet business, one of your main goals should be to reach the top spot in search engine rankings.  Listed below are practical tips on how you can optimize search engines to promote your online business:

1 ) Choosing the wrong target keywords. Spend time studying the target keywords that are relevant to your business and use them in your website content and in link building.

2 ) Placing your keywords only in the Meta Keywords Tag. Instead of just using target keywords in your meta tags, use them in your articles, page title, url and the navigation links on your business web site.

3 ) Keyword stuffing. Avoid the excessive use of keywords in your articles as this is a major violation that can get you penalized.  A 1% keyword density is usually recommended, depending on the length of your article.

4 ) Creating different web pages for every search engine. Submitting the same page of your website to different search engines using the keywords you optimize should do the trick.  There is no need to submit a hundred different pages to search engines.

5 ) Putting hidden keywords in your pages. This is known as “black hat” SEO tactic.  Keywords can be hidden in a web page by using the same text color as the background color but search engines today can detect this kind of strategy.

6 ) Photos or images outnumber your pages. Search engines do not read images or flash codes.  Hence, even if your website contains tons of pictures yet is lacking text content, search engines will have a hard time finding you.

7 ) Using frames incorrectly on your pages. Another type of that search engines do not read are frames.  This is why online business owners need to use HTML codes whenever they need to include frames on their pages.

8 ) Relying on automatic submission tools. Submitting to search engines and directories can be a time-consuming task yet manual submission is still the most reliable way to get to the top.

9 ) Overloading your daily submissions. Ideally, internet marketers can submit one web page to search engines per day instead of submitting multiple pages from the same source.

10 ) Focusing only in SEO. Search Engine Optimization is important but do not overlook other essential aspects in marketing such as offline promotion, paying attention to the quality of your products and services, ensuring customer satisfaction, and effective business management.
