Postcards: An Effective Way To Market Your Business
In the past, postcards were just used for personal reasons. As time goes by, advertising a business through the use of postcards has been proven to be very effective as well. Let us discuss the reasons why most entrepreneurs choose postcard marketing.
Postcards Generates More Web Traffic and Sales Leads
Postcards are easy to read and understand. People are always on the go and this is exactly the reason why postcards are popular. Information is delivered fast and with less effort through postcards.
People Read Postcards
Let us put it this way. If the recipient is a very busy career woman, she won’t have time to even open an envelope more so to read what’s inside especially if it’s a long letter. A postcard has a higher chance to be read than a long letter.
Most people would just throw out other direct mails without even opening the envelope. On the other hand, a postcard is almost impossible to throw away without even seeing the message.
Postcards Are Easier To Make
Composing a message needs time and effort. However, it is easier to make since you don’t have to write a very long marketing copy. With regards to the designs, you can upload your own image or browse the internet for ready-made templates and designs and choose the best for your kind of business.
Postcards Are Cheaper
A postcard can be printed using your own computer or a commercial printer. Either way, it is still cheaper than other forms of direct mail.
Using your own computer, each postcard will only cost less than 2 cents. You can have them printed individually on a blank 4×6 inch index card or print 4 at once on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of index card stock and cut them into quarters.
On the other hand, having it printed by a commercial printer will cost you 4 to 9 cents each. This will depend on the quality you want. You can ask for a discount depending on how many postcards you are planning to have printed.
With regards to postage for mailing, it is also cheaper for postcards. Each postcard sent by First Class Mail in the US will only cost you 23 cents. However, the postcards must be at least 3 1/2 x 5 inches but not over 4 1/4 x 6 inches.
Thing to Remember:
1.Keep it simple. Even if it is for advertising purposes, compose a message that is friendlier and simple.
2.Never try to close sales. A consumer needs more information to make a buying decision. A postcard has a limited space so it is not possible to include all the information about a product or service that your customer wants to know.
3.Cite the biggest benefit you offer. Instead of including too many details that might just make your postcard look cluttered, state the biggest benefit your consumer can get once they decide to purchase your products.
4.Direct your prospects to your website. Urge your prospects to check out your website or contact you for more information.
5.Always include your contact details. Never forget to include your contact information in every postcard. (I.e. landline or mobile numbers, office address, etc.)
6.Always use a real 23 cent stamp. Avoid using printed indicia (imprinted postage). Most people associate printed indicia with junk mails.
7.Always send your postcards using First Class Mail. First Class Mails takes only 3-5 business days to deliver and will be returned to you at no extra charge if undelivered. It is best to use this when sending out your postcards since Standard Mail can take up to 2-3 weeks and it will be just discarded without notifying the sender when undelivered. A First Class Mail will surely cost a few more cents than a Standard Mail but try to think of its advantages.

Nice article. Out of interest, what is your response to people who say that it is too difficult to monitor the effectiveness of this sort of advertising?
1I think it takes very little effort to effectively “key” your postcards so you can verify their effectiveness. You can use a special 800# so you know all calls that come in on that number are from that particular posting. While that sounds complicated, its not anymore. Companies like RingCentral provide 800 #s very inexpensively. You can offer coupon codes, or send them to landing pages made specifically for that offer on your website. Thanks for stopping by, you just gave me a new topic to write about
. Happy Holidays!
2Hahan, no problem! Thanks very much for taking the time to respond to me and I look forward to your next post on the topic!
