Have you checked your headline?

If you feel that you’re not getting the results you expect from your postcard marketing campaign, perhaps it’s time to take a closer look at how you execute your campaign. One of the first questions to consider is this- Did you use a strong headline?

Does it really matter whether or not you pay attention to your headline?  The answer is yes.  Using a the right headline can make or break your postcard marketing campaign.  Let’s discuss how.

What is a headline?

The headline is the first thing that the recipient would notice when your postcard arrives.  A poorly written headline can drive away a customer’s interest while a solid headline will invoke curiosity and interest.  Yes, a strong headline would decide whether or not your recipient will read the rest of your postcard’s message.

It takes less than five seconds to read a headline.  Within that time span, your headline should be able to capture the reader’s attention, arouse curiosity and invite the recipient to read on.  If your headline fails to do this in less than five seconds your postcard will surely end up in the trash bin.  Obviously, the quality of your headline makes a big difference on how your postcard marketing campaign would turn out.

What makes a great headline?

So what makes a great headline?  An effective headline captures interest and curiosity.  It appeals to both the mind and emotion.  One look at your headline and the reader should feel interested, excited even, to find out more.

One way to create a headline that generates positive response is to make a promising offer.  An attractive headline is something that promises a benefit to the recipient.  Since everyone wants something better or something good, your headline should deliver just that.  Yes, an effective headline can hint something of value to your recipient.

Creating a strong headline is not a very easy task.   You will need to take time conceptualizing the perfect headline for your postcard advertising campaign.  But your time and effort would surely pay off.  Spending more time composing a headline that works is definitely a hundred times better than rushing to get your postcards done without getting back anything from your audience.

The format of your headline plays an important role just as well.  After coming up with a good headline, consider how your headline will appear on your postcard.  Remember, your goal is to get your headline read easily and quickly so you’ll want to stay away from font styles that are overly embellished or hardly readable.  Make sure that the font size of your headline is just right even for people with imperfect vision.  Choose colors that command attention yet doesn’t strain the eye.

  1. As a journalist, I have learned that a very good headline always attracts lots of readers. And as an entrepreneur now, I have kept that belief as well. I have also made postcards and sent it as a marketing tool. And believe me, a headline is very important as well. Sometimes its even difficult to think of an effective headline than making the content. But of course, content is important as well. But the first thing a reader or customer sees is the headline. If it has something interesting to tell, then it means the whole content is interesting as well. So make a great headline.
