Postcard Marketing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

August 25, 2010 By: ecpmmain Category: Postcard Marketing and Advertising Articles

Postcard marketing has been proven to be a highly effective technique in promoting a business.  However, in order to be truly effective, marketers need to know the right strategies.  This article talks about usual mistake done when marketing with postcards and how they can be avoided.

1: Not Setting a Specific Goal. What would you like to achieve with this postcard marketing campaign?  What response do you expect to get from your targeted audience?  Would you like them to try out a new product or service?  Would you like them to visit your online store?

In marketing with postcards, it is very important to set a specific goal before anything else. From there, you can begin to plan the steps that you must to do so you can achieve your goals. Without focus, you are bound to make even more mistakes along the way.

2: Not Sending First Class Mail. Some marketers may think that they are saving money by not using First Class Mailing service.  However, sending First Class gives you several options such as the “Return to Sender” option which are not available in cheaper postage. Ultimately, you can be sure that your postcards will be delivered to the intended recipients and not be lost along the way.

3: Attempting to Close Sales. It’s best not to do your selling with your postcards. Postcards are best used to generate leads, not to close sales. Because postcards have a limited space, it would not be possible to stress all the benefits.  Create a message that will invite people to find out more about the products and services you offer.

4: Not Leaving Enough White Space.
You need to use every space in your postcard smartly. Be careful not to put in too much information that there isn’t any more white space left on the card.  Remember, you want your message to get read.  If your postcard looks like there is too much going on, it may discourage the recipient from reading it.

5: Not Using Call-to-Action Words. Do not assume that your recipients already know what they should do. It is crucial to include words or phrases that call to action such as “Call this number”, “Visit our website”, and the like.  Tell your recipients exactly what you want to do.  You’ll be surprised at how these words or phrases can make a difference in your postcard marketing campaign.
