Don’t Forget Direct Mail Marketing Tactics

January 22, 2010 By: ecpmmain Category: Direct Marketing Articles

Direct mail has been a proven marketing strategy which can be done both online and offline.  Consider the following tips on how you can make your direct mail marketing campaign a success:

Use postcards. Postcards are effective because they contain short, simple messages that are easy to read.  Furthermore, the cost for creating, printing and mailing one postcard is far cheaper than sending a business letter.

Offer a discount or a free gift. One way to attract prospective customers is to use postcards as discount coupons or vouchers.  A customer can bring the postcard to the store to claim the discount or the gift.  You can also include a coupon code on the card for customers who prefer to purchase online.

Offer a free trial. Send a direct mail or email to let your prospects know that you are offering a free trial.  Thus, they will have the chance to try out your product without any risks.

Use a personal tone. When writing your marketing copy, it is better to use a personal tone than a very formal approach.  Don’t forget to highlight the benefits.

Use easy to read font. See to it that your readers can easily read your message by using the right font style and size.

Repetition is the key. Place your call-to-action phrases at the beginning, middle and end of your marketing copy.  Don’t be afraid to use repetition.

Use bulleted lists. To maximize the space, you can use a bulleted list style to enumerate important details, highlight your main points or summarize.  A reader can scan through a list quickly since unnecessary words are omitted.

Use call-to-action words/phrases.  Call to action words and phrases tell the reader exactly what to do.  Examples of words that call for action are “Call Now”, “Order Now”, “Visit Your Nearest Sore Today”, “Click Her to Claim Your Free Gift”, etc.  Don’t leave your reader guessing of what to do next.  Tell them exactly the next step they should do upon reading your mail.
