Banner Exchange and Your Online Business

June 04, 2009 By: ecpmmain Category: Articles

Using banner ads has been a tried and tested method of promoting online. However, businesses who have a limited marketing budget may feel that this tactic is not for them. If you own an online business and you want to try this marketing strategy, why not consider banner exchange programs?

Exchanging Banners – How It Works

How does banner exchanging work? Different businesses endorse each other’s products or services by placing each other’s banners on their websites. Thus, instead of paying expensively for exclusive banner placement, both businesses benefit at a smaller cost.

If you search the web, you can find banner ad exchange groups where you can find potential partners. Signing up with these groups is free and the only obligation to fulfill is to post the other’s banner on your website.

However, if you want to exchange banners, it’s important to choose a business or a company that is related or relevant to your site. Make sure that your own banner would receive significant attention by partnering with the right online business. If your banner would be placed in a site that receives very little traffic, it may not generate the results you expect.

Be careful about choosing a direct competitor! Of course, you’ll want to stay away from companies that offer the same products and services that you do. If you promote their own banners, you may drive away potential customers to patronize your competitor, instead of you.

Start Your Affiliate Marketing Campaign

Another way to promote your business is to start your own affiliate program. Encourage webmasters to post your banners on their sites by offering a commission from the sales generated from your ads. Many successful online businesses use this method to gain more exposure, acquire more customers and generate actual sales.

You have two options to compensate your affiliates – the cost per click or the cost per sale basis. The cost per click means payment would depend on the number of hits or clicks that the banner generates. The cost per sale on the other hand means your affiliate would earn a commission when a customer makes a purchase. Some advertisers offer a commission of 5% or 10% from the price of the product sold. You may also offer bonuses when a potential customer signs up or makes an inquiry about your product.

Banners and Postcard Marketing

You can use postcards not only to promote your products and services, but also to advertise your business website and your affiliate program. Invite people to sign up for your affiliate program and enjoy the incentives your offer. Marketing with postcards is effective because recipients can immediately understand your message without the need to open an envelope or read through a long letter.

When sending postcards, make sure that the URL to your website and all your contact details are printed correctly. A short, clear, and concise message is a must! Finally, to get the most from your marketing campaign, make sure that you’re sending out your postcards to the right people.
