10 You-Need-To-Know Email Marketing Mistakes
A survey done by Forrester Research reveals that 79% of consumers receive at least one email marketing newsletter from an online merchant they’re subscribe to. Obviously, this method of advertising is an effective way to reach out to your prospects.
Here are email marketing mistakes that business owners and internet marketers can learn from:
1) Flooding with unnecessary content. Focus on the purpose of your newsletter. Don’t try to include too many varieties of content which can only confuse your readers. Don’t make it unnecessarily lengthy that your subscriber may lose interest reading it.
2) Flooding with too many images. Including too many graphics in your newsletter can slow down its download time. If it takes too long to open your email, your subscriber may close out the browser without reading your content at all.
3) Not using professional design. Work on your newsletter’s layout and design. Make sure that it looks professional otherwise your subscriber will not pay much attention to it. If your newsletter looks sloppy, your reader may unsubscribe shortly after receiving the first one that you sent.
4) Not checking if all links are properly working. Clicking on a dead link can be really annoying for a reader, especially if the subject or the title has really captured his/her attention and curiosity. Make it a point to ensure that all links in your newsletter are working and opens at the right page.
5) Not including a subscribe or unsubscribe button. All your newsletters should contain a “subscribe” and an “unsubscribe” button that your readers can click on whenever they wish to refer someone or be taken out of your listing.

6) Not using effect subject lines. Remember that your subject line will determine whether your reader opens your newsletter or not. Take time in creating appropriate subject lines that capture attention and stir up interest.
7) Cluttering your newsletter. Again, flooding your newsletter with content may occupy too much space. As a result, your newsletter will look disorganized and uneasy to read.
8) Failing to use call to action statements. A call to action statement is the statement that clearly tells what you want your reader to do. You’ll be surprised at what big difference a call to action statement can do. A simple, “click here to place your order” or “click here to subscribe” can actually bring in more positive results for you.
9) Not including RSS feed buttons. Not placing RSS buttons or putting them in places where it’s difficult to see can be a major drawback. Always think about the convenience of your readers when arranging the layout of your newsletter or website.
10) Not using an updated e-mail list. Your newsletters will not reach your target market if the e-mail list you are using is a year old or outdated. People change their e-mail addresses often. If you’re not updating your e-mail list, then it’s most likely that most of the addresses on your list are not in use or have been closed.
