10 Avoidable Common Internet Marketing Mistakes

April 13, 2010 By: ecpmmain Category: Internet Marketing Articles

To get positive results from your internet marketing strategies, the steps need to be correctly executed.  Listed below are ten common internet marketing mistakes that must be avoided:

1) Slow download time. Does your business website download quickly?  If it takes too long to load, visitors to your site may not have the patience to wait around and close out their browsers.  You can lose prospective customers just because of a slow upload.

2) Using complex programs. Do you use flash on your websites?  Some internet uses do not have Macromedia Flash installed on their computers so they may not be able to view flash programs.  Make sure that they have the option to  switch to an HTML version.

3) Focusing solely on internet marketing. Internet marketing is an effective tool but do not set aside the power of offline marketing tactics. Keep in mind that not everyone has the time to surf the internet.

4) Overlooking the importance of search engine listings. Make sure that internet users will be able to find your website from the search engines.  If you are not yet listed, you could be missing a huge traffic.

5) Not updating your website. Keeping your website constantly updated is an important factor to stay on top of search engine listings.  Don’t forget that you’ll be up against tough competition and if you cannot offer anything new to your visitors, they will lose interest in your website.

6) Partnering with the wrong affiliations. If you want to promote affiliate programs, make sure that it is relevant to your business.  More importantly, see to it that you are partnering with a legitimate company.

7) Imposing complicated procedures. Is your website easy to use?  Can visitors find their way around your site with no hassle?  If you want people to sign up for your newsletter, don’t make the process complicated. Always keep it quick and simple.

8 ) Overlooking the power of viral marketing. Viral marketing is “word of mouth” executed through the internet.  Make sure that your newsletters have easy to click buttons so they can easily forward the ezine to their friends or make recommendations.

9) Not having an opt-in list. When people visit your website, grab the opportunity to obtain their contact information so you can send them email updates with their consent.

10) Never spam. Be professional!  Never send unsolicited emails!  And make sure that there is a “subscribe” and “unsubscribe” button in your newsletters.  Furthermore, observe proper email etiquette when sending marketing emails.
